June 28, 2016 – A mother in Texas shot her two daughters to death during her husband’s birthday last week. Authorities said on Monday that she had called a family meeting before the shootout happened.
Christy Sheats, 42 years old, was then killed by a Texas police officer after she refused to drop her .38 caliber handgun.
The office of Fort Bend County Sheriff said in a statement that on Friday, Christy Sheats gathered her daughters (22 years old Taylor and 17 years old Madison), and her husband Jason (who had just turned 45) in their home’s living room in Katy, Texas, west of Houston.
The statement said that during that meeting, Sheats held up a handgun and shot both girls.
According to the statement, the father and the girls tried to escape, but Madison soon collapsed and died. Jason Sheats raced to the cul-de-sac’s end, while Taylor managed to run into the street.
The statement added that Christy chased after Taylor and shot her again, before she returned to their house and reloaded. She then returned to Taylor and shot her once more.
According to the report, Taylor died at a local hospital while Jason was not injured.
A responding police officer and deputy found both girls lying in the street while Christy still holding a gun in her hand.
According to the neighbor of the family, Fazz Zainuddin, he heard Jason say “Don’t do this. They are our kids.”
He also added that police officers were stationed behind cars and trees and told Christy to put her gun down and obviously she did not.
Police still don’t know what Christy’s motive for the shooting was. The spokeswoman of Fort Bend County Sheriff Office, Caitilin Espinosa, said that Jason is cooperating with the investigation.
Troy E. Nehls, the Fort Bend County Sheriff, called the situation a terrible incident in his post on Facebook a day after the shooting incident.
