For some cosmic reason, at some point in time, some people agreed it was appropriate to spend thousands on engagement rings. Because clearly diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and the size of the rock symbolizes how much your partner loves you.

Right? Wrong.

When the word “engagement ring” becomes “lunchbox,” it’s apparent just how absurd the pressure to spend thousands on a luxury item really is — especially if you can’t actually afford it.

And, honestly, do you really need that $8,000 “lunchbox” versus the $4,000 one?
