Selena Gomez’s ‘Pray For Gaza’ Instagram Sparks International Fan Debate

Selena Gomez seems to have created an international (fan) incident after she posted an Instagram message on Friday (July 18) that read “It’s About Humanity: Pray for Gaza”. The comments quickly poured in, with some fans vowing to unfollow her in protest, while others rushed to her defense.

The “Come & Get It” singer posted a message urging her followers to “pray for those families and babies today,” seemingly referring to the casualties of Israel’s ground attack on the volatile Palestinian region of Gaza.

But while her intention may have been to encourage peace — writing “Please always remember what’s important in life. It’s not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love.” — the post seems to have left Selenators divided, with many rushing to attack or defend their idol, turning the comments section into a spirited debate over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Instagram user nicolenourian wrote, “Are you serious Selena?… posting this goes against all your Jewish fans. I am so insulted and disgusted right now.” Lily.Kh kept it short: “Unfollowed.” Still, many others rushed to her defense, arguing Selena was merely calling for peace, while others simply repeated the hashtag #prayforgaza.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu ordered land, air and sea attacks on Gaza this week in an effort to destroy underground tunnels that Hamas — the Islamic terrorist organization in Gaza — has been using to attack Israel. According to reports, nearly 300 Palestinians have been killed, including around 80 children.

In addition to the recent tunnel attacks by Hamas on Israel, the attacks come less than a week after three Israeli teenagers were killed — allegedly by Hamas militants — after they were kidnapped in the West Bank.

Earlier this week, Rihanna came under similar fire after tweeting “#FreePalestine,” a message that a source told TMZ “was never meant to be tweeted.” NBA star Dwight Howard received backlash for posting the exact same message on Saturday.

    *Islamic terrorist organization?
Its their democratic ally elected government

  • Meee

If praying for Gaza offends all the Jews around the world then Hitlar had a point. Ridiculous!!

    • m-ni

You’re comparing civilian casualties, who by the way are thrown by their leaders into the line of fire, to wholesale genocide. Very smart.

    • duncanmc

The thing about such stupid, hateful commentary is that it will come around to bite YOU, eventually. The Palestinians hate a Jew just for being a Jew, they absolutely refuse to negotiate ANYTHING and they expect the world to come around to booting Israel from the map. The last great war of mankind will begin because the Jews FINALLY have had enough and strike back.

      • Joseph

Very true , The Jews are no longer that helpless lot that had endured atrocities and persecution for centuries. Since the holocaust they had embarked on a scheme that would ensure that never again would the Jews be victimized. Their success was phenomenal, particularly in the liberal democracies where by way of their wealth they indulged in every possible practice, scholarship, manipulation;bribery, extortion and political assassinations (Rabin .JFK) to achieving this overwhelming and irreversible political ascendancy in the West. Machiavellian par excellence. They have no tolerance , even to an innocent humanitarian perspective by a budding young actress. I hope to god , that they act mercifully and allow her to follow in her acting vocation unencumbered and without resentment.

I pray for Gaza everyday! I pray that all Palestinians in that shithole die soon. As soon as my prayers are answered, I will start praying for the West Bank.

  • Izhar ul Haq

How can they hold the voices of people! Jews are trying to threaten people but they will be in bad position very shortly.

  • Kevin Chambers

While CNN and other western network are broadcasting their propaganda about the Palestinians, the Israelis are slaughtering scores of children and women. How different is that from what Hitler did?????????

    • Kathleen Marion

Really? You mean those misfired rockets that Hamas shoots at Israel and lands in their own country are Israel’s fault or the FACT that Hamas hides behind women and children when fighting their battles telling them Allah will be pleased if they get bombed by Israel protecting the weapons Hamas stashes in their homes. It takes a special kind of stupid to be willing to die knowing the Israeli’s have warned them their home is a target BECAUSE Hamas is hiding out there, but you are an advanced level of stupid to believe the propaganda that it is Israel’s fault! Hamas is killing their own people moron then cries that it is Israel’s fault! And don’t forget the Palestinians voted for their terrorist government.

      • Thegrimreaper

The “fact” acording to israel is what you should say.The Palestinians are not the ones that bombed the U.N schools, after israel told the women and children that they would be safe there, the Palestinians are not the ones using white phosfourous grenades against civilians, the Palestinians are not the ones killing hundreds of women and children. The Palestinians are however the ones being locked up by a state, that keeps stealing more and more land each day, and they have been prisoners in theire own land since 1948, and the prison guards are claiming to be “gods” chosen people, and if someone tries to criticise israel for the inhumane way they are treating the Palestinians, they scream remember the holocost and everyone who dares criticise them in any way, they call an anti semite. So who is really the terrorist here?

        • Kathleen Marion

Israel dropped leaflets telling them to get out because against international law they were storing rockets and other weapons in the UN building. Hamas told the stupid Palestinians that it was allah’s will that they stay and die in the attack by Israel. It is not Israel’s fault if people are stupid and won’t leave. You need to learn real history rather than believing the propaganda from Pallywood, which is a load of crap delivered by CNN 70% Arab owned. You only get with the ragheads want you to know. Learn history, it’s real and it’s truth.

        • Kathleen Marion

If you really think that Israel is occupying land that belonged to the Palestinians I expect you to be able to answer a few basic questions about that country of Palestine:
          1. When was it founded and by whom?
          2. What were its borders?
          3. What was its capital?
          4. What were its major cities?
          5. What constituted the basis of its economy?
          6. What was its form of government?
          7. Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat?
          8. Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation?
          9. What was the language of the country of Palestine?
          10. What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine?
          11. What was the name of its currency? Choose any date in history and tell what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese Yuan on that date.
          12. And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?
You are lamenting the “low sinking” of a “once proud” nation. Please tell me, when exactly was that “nation” proud and what was it so proud of?

And here is the least sarcastic question of all: If the people you mistakenly call “Palestinians” are anything but generic Arabs collected from all over — or thrown out of — the Arab world, if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, why did they never try to become independent until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War?

I hope you avoid the temptation to trace the modern day “Palestinians” to the Biblical Philistines: substituting etymology for history won’t work here.

The truth should be obvious to everyone who wants to know it. Arab countries have never abandoned the dream of destroying Israel; they still cherish it today. Having time and again failed to achieve their evil goal with military means, they decided to fight Israel by proxy. For that purpose, they created a terrorist organization, cynically called it “the Palestinian people” and installed it in Gaza, Judea, and Samaria . How else can you explain the refusal by Jordan and Egypt to unconditionally accept back the “West Bank” and Gaza , respectively?

The fact is, Arabs populating Gaza, Judea, and Samaria have much less claim to nationhood than that Indian tribe that successfully emerged in Connecticut with the purpose of starting a tax-exempt casino: at least that tribe had a constructive goal that motivated them. The so-called “Palestinians” have only one motivation: the destruction of Israel, and in my book that is not sufficient to consider them a nation” — or anything else except what they really are: a terrorist organization that will one day be dismantled.

In fact, there is only one way to achieve peace in the Middle East. Arab countries must acknowledge and accept their defeat in their war against Israel and, as the losing side should, pay Israel reparations for the more than 50 years of devastation they have visited on it. The most appropriate form of such reparations would be the removal of their terrorist organization from the land of Israel and accepting Israel‘s ancient sovereignty over Gaza, Judea, and Samaria.

That will mark the end of the Palestinian people. What are you saying again was its beginning?

        • The_Infidel_01

The Israeli’s are not the ones digging tunnels to murder families in their sleep, the Israeli’s are not making children’s tv programs calling for the murder of fakistinians, Israel does not have a policy of from the river to the sea all of Israel will be free. Israel lets fakistinians live in Israel, abbas says there will be no Jew living in any area pa controls.
On the other hand, fakistinians are digging tunnels to murder people in their sleep. fakistinians are firing rockets daily into civilian areas deliberately, fakistinians are doing tv children programs calling for genocide of all Jews world wide, fakistinians are seen on tv saying “we want the Jews to all come to Israel, it will save us hunting them down around the world to kill them”.
I will feel anything for the fakistinians as soon as they decide genocide of all non muslims is not a good idea.

          • sam

you are just a piece of shit in the US who follow quite enough CNN, what Israhell is doing against humans is not actually humanity, forget about religion, because the christian Palestinians are the same target in israhell ideology, and same as other commentators here, if all jews are against a girl who pray for children, then there is a point in hitler thoughts !

          • The_Infidel_01

Well done hamas lapdog, you have written a perfect islamofacist blog post. full of insults, deliberate misspelling and conjuring the holocaust, while ignoring anything that resembles facts. Oh how blissful it must be to go through life regurgitating vile hate, lies and distortions, all the while leaving your brain in the bread box.

    • duncanmc

Do you ever listen to what the Palestinians say they want to do to the Jews – just for being born Jews? It’s easy to listen if you take the time. This conflict is about SURVIVAL for the Jews. When the world eventually decides to impose another solution of the “Jewish” problem, the whole world is going to burn. I think that’s a good thing.

      • Henri

The ” Palestinian solution” is not much different from Hitlers final solution
and if a young girl cannot say “Pray for Gaza” without being attacked speaks volume to the Israeli strategy. Even if by accident
I run over a dog I feel bad about it .
What is so bad to pray to our creator to protect children.
Any way if you were enclosed in a Ghetto like what Gaza would your behavior be? It would not be any better.

    Sorry, who is Selena Gomez?

    • ensilguz

  • ensilguz

Thank you Selena, I knew behind that pretty angel face there is a human being concern about the tragedy is taking place in the occupied territories were hundred of innocent people, woman and childred have been killed by the israeli army.

  • Ajamal

Thanks Selena for speaking the truth.

  • Kathleen Marion

If the Palestinians really do what land where they can live in peace why do they continually refuse to acknowlege that the Jewish people have a right to exist?

The Palestinian refugee camps could end today if the PALESTINIANS really wanted that. They have recently been offered MORE land than Israel could give them…and they turn it down. (See report below)

So now we know that it’s not really a “homeland” that the Arabs-who-call-themselves-Palestinians want. No, they want the land where Jews live with no Jews on it. This ought to make it clear there is a racist agenda of ethnic cleansing on their minds. They seek apartheid, and indeed, that status already exists in most Arab lands.

    =====================================

Egyptian president General Abdel Fatah A-Sisi has offered Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to cede 160 square kilometers of the Sinai Peninsula adjoining Gaza to the PA, thus creating a Palestinian state five times the present size of Gaza. In return, the PA would stop demanding that Israel return to the 1967 borders.

The offer was revealed on IDF Radio.

A-Sisi reportedly suggested that Palestinian “refugees” be allowed to settle in the new, much enlarged Gaza, which would be demilitarized.

The Palestinian cities in Judea and Samaria would enjoy autonomy and be fully run by the PA, according to the plan, which would leave the PA with even more territory than it would have if Israel ceded all of Judea and Samaria.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was aware of the offer and the United States gave a green light, according to the military radio station’s sources.

A similar idea was floated years ago by Israeli academicians and by Major General (ret.) Giora Eiland, but was rejected by Egypt at the time.

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s office wasted no time on Monday denying reports that Egypt had offered the PA a state in the Sinai Peninsula, in return for the PA agreeing to forego demands on the 1949 Armistice lines as borders.

Al-Tayyib Abd Al-Rahim, Secretary-General of Abbas’s office, told the Palestinian Arab Ma’an News Agency that the reports were “fabricated.”

Al-Rahim added that Abbas would not accept any alternative to a “Palestinian state” on the 1949 Armistice lines with eastern Jerusalem as its capital.

The hate quantum of the Jews towards the Palestinians is reminiscent of Hitlerism. This young celebrity posted a purely humanitarian statement with regards to the atrocities the people of GAZA are subjected to on a daily basis. Indiscriminate atrocities that have made of five your old children stepping out of a school bus a target practice for the sinister Defense Forces of Israel. It is unfortunate that the Jews who had suffered unspeakable abuse and persecution for centuries are practicing same on a people that they know .clear well , they had usurped their statehood. I guess this young budding actress has just doomed her acting career, because the motion picture industry is Jewish owned through and through. For her sake I would recommend that she retract her statement if she wishes to continue in her acting vocation. I am saying this cause i know how sinister and vindictive this ethnic minority is as a result of a legacy of suffering they had endured for centuries. Since the holocaust this minority has achieved overwhelming political and financial dominance in the West and is able to undermine, blemish and eradicate any one even if innocently and unintentionally derogates the state of Israel. I pray that this sinister begrudged minority takes a merciful and rational response to the young lady’s innocent indiscretion.

    • Henri

What does It say about our society when we cannot even have an innocent opinion .How can a minority enforce our opinions and way of thinking.
Is it Democracy that this young girl cannot even pray for Palestinian children .
I should remind the Israeli that they should go to YAD VASHEM and see the thousands of Eastern Europeans that sacrificed their lives and in many cases the live of whole villages and family to protect Jews.

      • duncanmc

No one has said she cannot have an opinion. She is welcome to it as are you. But that does not answer my point about the end game the Palestinians desire. They – and most of their supporters – deny utterly the right of Jews to have a state in Palestine and if given the opportunity would literally exterminate the Jew from that land. That isn’t MY rhetoric, it’s THEIRS. Do you support them in this? If so, what does that say about you? No solution will ever be found without violence and one must decide who to support. I am comfortable in my choice.

        • sam

it is jews who are against living side by side in the occupied lands not Palestinians, any time Palestinians tried in co-existence, Jews hit from back and grab more land for settlements, now even European countries know the true face and colors of Israelis, and very soon we will notice all over the world will be united against these criminals against humanity

          • Henri

I am not on the side of the Palestinian but I do believe that killing thousands including Children wounding 10000 and destroying Gaza is not justified even if you believe you were the chosen.
This not onlyl my opinion a lot of Israelies believe the same. The only thing we can agree on that we will forever disagree I do believe in God my God is just and mercifull I don’ believe that he agrees with what Israel is doing when the day of reckoning comes both Palestinians and Jews will have to face him.
By the way there is a book written by the son of an Israeli general and he seems to have the same point of View.

        • Henri

Nobody in their right mind can support the mass murder in Gaza. I have always been close to Jews but this last episode has turned me off. I am Polish and I cannot see much diference between what israel is doing to the Palestinian in their Ghetto and the Germans in the Warsaw ghetto . By the way I have lost my grandfather for defending Jews and my 70 year old grandmother was whipped by the Germans and she did not give the jews that were hiding and this BS about being antisemitic does not work with me.What greater antisemitism than the genocide in Gaza against Palestinians which also are semitic.
And by the way if you follow Israeli opinions there are almost 50% of the population which is not in favor of what is going on they also want to settle this problem and live in peace.
Any way the death of the israeli youth which provoked this assault has been proven that it was not Hamas that oredered the operation.
If you really love Israel as many do including myself it is time that there is a settlement. The Palestinian logically do not agree to their own rape

          • duncanmc

If a settlement could include Jews living in real peace alongside Palestinians then of course I’d be all for it. The Palestinian people have been nurtured on hate of the Jew as part of their religious belief for so many generations that such an accommodation is impossible. It just isn’t going to happen. In the end the Palestinians will finally be destroyed – the book says so. We all have to believe something and this is what I believe. Time will tell. But when a person blindly supports one group over the other they should at least be aware of BOTH sides of the argument. The Palestinians regularly SPEAK openly of destroying the Jew from the land. The Jews regularly (many anyway) speak of finding a solution for a peaceful coexistence. The settlers would have to be hamstrung but that could happen under the right circumstances. On the opposite side it would require a totally new outlook by the leadership in the Palestinian territory. Watch it unfold – the Bible will be accurate and those who hate a Jew just for being a Jew will LOSE. And when the world at large finally comes against Israel – as it is foretold – then the world will lose as well.

          • Henri

Everybody has their own opinion after living in Europe through WW2 there is no way I can believe that the turkey shoot in Gaza is justified.
I too believe in the good Book but there is no way there is justifications for the mass murder in Gaza
God is the same for us Christians as it is for Jews “Thou shall not kill aplies to both of us”

          • duncanmc

And what is your opinion of the Palestinians who kill Jewish children? Do you feel they are justified because of what is called the “occupation”? I do not attempt to justify or support every act of the government of Israel – they are as bad as any other government – including our own. But they are no WORSE. I believe that the world is in the process of turning on this little state of the Jews and at some point they are going to be forced to defend themselves or be destroyed. The bible says as much. The rhetoric of so called genocide and Nazism by the people of Israel is despicable IMO. Yes, many of them are probably arrogant – even evil in the way they treat the Palestinians but they do not deserve to be annihilated for being assholes any more than the average person in THIS country.

          • Henri

My opinion of Palestinians that kill children is the same as the one of Israeli soldiers killing children.Mass punishment is no better than the Germans who would kill a whole Polish village for hiding one Jew. Both actions are abominations what is bad and are just as guilty those that believe those actions are justified. And those that tolerate them are just as guilty as the Germans at least some of them did not know the extent but anybody that has a TV can see the abomination that is caused by the IDF.
I do not believe that death by gun fire is a response for a child throwing stones. You should also remember that in Poland Poles of the Jewish religion also were part of the Polish partisan and also attacked the Germans that did not give the Germans Justification for their extermination. You should also realize that the victims of the Holocaust were not only Jews millions other also died including my grandfather and these people were not animals they were humans and the pretense that somehow the bibles mention Israelis as the “Chosen People” sounds a lot as the Germans believing they were a super race.I repeat the tablets that Mose brought down stated “Thou Shall not kill” a goys life is as important to him as to his family and since we both believe in the same God we should follow his law.

          • duncanmc

I can respect what you are saying but I still believe that you are ignoring or denying a clear fact in this situation. The Palestinian leadership – and most of the common people – will not allow a simple solution where Jews can live on part of this land – no matter how small a part. You speak of mass punishment of Palestinians being unjust but what do you expect from those Palestinians when a peace is made? Can you not see FROM THEIR OWN WORDS what it is they intend? Do you doubt their sincerity? They talk of slaughter and total displacement. And according to God’s word they will almost succeed. 2/3 of Israel will be lost. But Isaiah says of Christ that by him ALL of Gaza would be destroyed. In fact most people don’t understand what the Lord clearly says he will personally do to the enemies of his people when he returns. I make no case for the wrongs of the Israeli people. They have become careless and mean spirited over these 70 years but they have had good reason to hate. They will pay a dear price before it is over but those who come against them – even just by stirring up opinion – will also pay a price in that day.

          • Henri

The Palestinian leadership is also to blame but what would your reaction be if your land had been taken away and your people killed.Just as the Palestinians have their fanatics the Jews have Nethanyahu whos is no angel and will have to respond before God for his crimes “Two wrongs do not do one right” just like the Palestinians will have to pay for theirs God does not discriminate even muslims believe in the old testament and Moses commandments.
It is to hope that somehow this problem will be settled as the price of all concerned are paying is high . I ask you how would you behave if you were displaced from your land locked in a Ghetto and see your children die.I myself even tho I am not in agreement with that would find it very dificult to behave diferently. Since both religions Jewish and Islamic believe in an “Eye for and Eye and a tooth for a Tooth ” I see it go on for a long time .
I thank god for my religion which teaches me to turn the other cheek this has allowed my Nation to forgive the Germans and go on with our life.

          • Henri

Apparently you do not see enough of the news .I ask you if you were humiliated bombed locked in a Ghetto you would behave similarly.I ask you how many Jewish children have been killed how many Palestinian?
Believe me if you killed one of my children I would not care if you were Chinese Jewish or whatever I would be pissed and only my Christianity would keep me from doing same. As I said before both of your beliefs make you behave this way.
By the way what has happened to the UN resolutions why is Netanyahu afraid of the International courts? if his behaviour was correct he would be the first to go.
What about the settlements if the real intent was to resolve the problem he would not keep invading Palestinian land.
From Netanyahu’s behaviour the only thing that an independent observer can deduce that there is no real intent to settle this peacefully and what Israel is doing is Ethnic cleansing.
Neither Israel cannot control the behaviour of 100% of their citizen nor can the Palestinians yet Israel respond in a violent manner using any problem to execute as many Palestinians as possible.
Those Jews who were in Poland during the German occupation remember that for every German killed by the partisans they would stop the traffic on the street
and count out 100 people that were shot on the spot.Yet this did not stop the Resistance!!
The human being is a noble creature and whether Black White Palestinian his behaviour is predictable and violence will not stop his desire to be free.

          • duncanmc

We will simply have to disagree. You have closed your mind to any possibility of an equitable solution because you support people who OPENLY, DAILY scream for the destruction of the Jews. This is not empty rhetoric. You say you believe in God and I believe you. But if this is so you cannot only accept your own morality and claim it is superior even to his word. He has said he will judge his enemies – mark that – his ENEMIES – who come against his chosen. He calls them that, who are you to tell him he is wrong? You asked how I would react if I were in the shoes of the Palestinians -I would be angry about the treatment but I would not become a vicious hate filled liar that desired the blood of my enemy. This is what the Palestinian is – to deny this is demonstrably wrong. Believe as you will but I would tremble at the thought of setting myself up at war with the God of the universe my friend
            Peace to you
