A letter from a mystery widower left at the bus stop where he met his late wife 64 years ago has moved other passengers to tears.

Found in a bus shelter in Neath, South Wales, the touching note was written by an unnamed 86-year-old man and had been attached to a bouquet of pink tulips.

The man had met his wife Joan in the run up to Christmas 1950 and sadly lost her last year.

It reads: ‘Joan, my beloved, passed away on 9-3-2013 and broke my heart for ever!

‘Rest in peace my darling. I’ll see you soon, I’ll be 87 soon so I will not be long… God Bless.’

Simon Watkins, a local resident who found the letter attached to the wooden bench inside the shelter, said: ‘It was such a poignant note and full of love for his wife.’

Sharon Thomas, who also saw the note, said: ‘I couldn’t stop crying when I read it. It is so lovely and touching, although very sad too.

‘She was a very lucky woman to be loved so much,’ she added.
