France call up Zidane! World Cup legend’s son Enzo chooses to play for Les Bleus Under 19s instead of Spain
Zinedine Zidane’s son Enzo has answered a call to play for France’s Under 19 side, youth team coach Willy Sagnol has confirmed.
Zidane Snr famously scored two goals to help Les Bleus win the 1998 World Cup final and his son appears to be following in his father’s footsteps, although he is also eligible to play for Spain and Algeria.
The 18-year-old will take part in a training camp at Clairefontaine next week but could yet decide to play for another country at senior level

‘The player has decided to wear the blue jersey’, Sagnol told Le Parisien.
‘He can still change in future but his current desire is to play for the France national team.’
The young Zidane, who is also known as Enzo Fernandez using his mother’s maiden name, has been torn between representing France and Spain at international level.

He was born in France in 1995, but moved to Spain when his father played for Real Madrid and obtained Spanish citizenship in 2006 before playing for the Spain Under 15 team in 2009.
He has remained in Spain wher he is currently part of Real Madrid’s youth system at the same club where his father won the Champions League and currently works as assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti.
Like his father, Enzo Zidane is also eligible to play for his paternal grandparent’s country of birth, Algeria.
