X Factor star Sharon Osbourne donates £10k to fund for Ryan Felix Glenny with terminal bowel cancer after Medway hospital wedding to Cola Weller
X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has donated £10,000 to an appeal set up for a Medway dad who got married after finding out he has incurable bowel cancer.
The 61-year-old gave the generous gift after reading Ryan Felix Glenny’s story – bringing the total raised for the fund to support his new wife and two young children by this morning to almost £38,000.
Osbourne – herself a cancer survivor – also sent a note saying: “Dear Felix. From a survivor, never give up the fight and hope.
“God bless you and your family. Love, Sharon Osbourne.”
Ryan – who is known by his middle name Felix – tied the knot with girlfriend Cola Weller, 22, at Medway Maritime hospital on Friday.
The 23-year-old was diagnosed with bowel cancer last month, but despite an operation and going through chemotherapy has now been told the devastating news that he will not recover.
Felix, of High Street, Lower Stoke, was admitted to Medway Maritime Hospital in November after suffering for several weeks with what he thought were stomach cramps.
But on November 11, doctors found a large tumour in his bowels and broke the shattering news to the family.
At first it was thought the tumour could be removed, but later tests showed it had spread too far and Felix was told he had just a few weeks to live.
The couple, who have two children, Ralph, two and Pearl, four months, decided to marry as soon as possible and invited their friends and family to the ceremony.
Felix was able to sit in a wheelchair during the moving service, which was led by Revd Steve Spencer, the senior chaplain at the hospital.
His best friend, 20-year-old Ashley Clark, started a GoFundMe website to raise money for his children.
It began with a series of fundraising events – including a pram race and five-a-side football tournament – had has now ballooned with online donations.
Cola said: “It’s lovely, I’ve had so many people message me saying they’re thinking of me and I don’t even know them.
“Felix is really comfortable at the moment. He’s got his head round everything and just wants to spend time with the kids, me and his family.
“He’s been really really positive, and is trying to think of the kids. It will be his last Christmas with them, so we want to make it as special as possible.”
