There goes my goal of the month prize! Wilshere hails Kasami wonder strike after Fulham ace does a Van Basten at Palace
On Saturday night it appeared that the goal of the month debate was over after Jack Wilshere capped a stunning team move to put Arsenal in the lead against Norwich.
But Fulham’s Swiss winger Pajtim Kasami had other ideas. The 21-year-old brought back memories of Marco van Basten at Euro 88 with a brilliant chest and volley past a stunned Julian Speroni in the Crystal Palace goal.
Wilshere was a fan of Kasami’s stunning volley in Monday night’s live game, tweeting: ‘Well there’s my goal of the month prize gone!!!! Take a bow!’
Stunner: Pajtim Kasami controls the ball on his chest..
Losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace, Fulham right back Sascha Reither knocked an innocuous-looking pass, after a bit of patient build-up play, towards the onrushing Kasami.
The winger, who scored Fulham’s winner against Sunderland on the opening day of the season, chested the ball down and unleashed an unbelievable volley that flew beyond a helpless Speroni.
And it didn’t finish there for Martin Jol’s team, as Steve Sidwell scored a stunner of his own to put the away side in the lead, before Dimitar Berbatov and Philippe Senderos got in on the act as Fulham ended up 4-1 winners.
Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker replied to Wilshere’s tweet, telling the young midfielder – in jest – to leave the voting to those in the studio.
