You hear so many negative stories about the airline industry that it’s refreshing when something heartwarming happens.

An El Al flight destined for New York from Tel Aviv turned around to pick up an 11-year-old-girl with cancer after she had to get off the plane when she couldn’t find her passport.

It seems the girl was one of 30 kids with cancer going to a camp that has been hosting such sick children for the last 20 years. The camp lets sick kids enjoy fun summer activities while taking their minds off their condition.

After all the kids were seated, staff went to collect passports, but couldn’t find one for Inbar Chomsky. After an exhausting nearly 30-minute search of the plane, Inbar had to get off.

The plane was rolling towards the runway when the passport turned up in another child’s backpack. The pilots consulted the tower and for half an hour they waited before getting the green light to go back and pick up Inbar.

The airline was only too happy to help, saying in a statement, “El Al was honored and proud to help Inbar’s dream to go to the camp in the USA come true. We wish Inbar full recovery and health.”

As do we.
