A barbecue for the homeless outside St Mary’s Church in Slough brought together two groups of dedicated people yesterday.

Raabia Akhter and Aamna Ahmed are from the Khidma charity that has been feeding homeless people in the town at the Slough’s YMCA during Ramadan.

On Sunday they celebrated the end of the holiest month in the Islamic calendar by teaming up with volunteers from the London and Slough Run, who regularly go out in the evenings to feed the homeless.

The combined ‘Eid lunch’ operation outside the church proved a success, attracting about 30 homeless people and giving the two groups a chance to exchange notes.
