MP Mark Hendrick has backed a group of Muslim volunteers who organised a Feed the Homeless event on Saturday on Preston Flag Market during Ramadan.
The Islamic holy month is a time for fasting, spiritual reflection and giving across the world.
Preston’s Muslim community have been fasting from dawn until dusk, but on Saturday, volunteers served traditional Asian meals to the city’s homeless community at 7pm.
Organiser Hussain Master said: ‘Ramadan is a time when Muslims can experience what it feels like to be literally starving and it’s this empathy that has led us to come together as a community to share our food with those who are less fortunate.”
Mark said: “This is a wonderful initiative from members of the Muslim community to help the homeless and needy in Preston.”
