Julie Siddiqi, of the Islamic Society of Britain, tells the Telegraph that Britain’s Muslim community have been left “sickened” by the horrific killing of a soldier in Woolwich “just like everybody else”.

Ms Siddiqi said that the two men suspected of slaughtering a British soldier in broad daylight did not represent Islam, she added that the incident left her “determined to make sure people know that this is not what our faith teaches”.

“There is no place for this,” she said. “It does not matter what is happening in other countries on the other side of the world, there is no justification for this whatsoever.”

She echoed the words of David Cameron, who said earlier: “The people that did this were trying to divide us.”
